Technology in the Classroom

Our children have been born into a technological world where things are changing so very quickly.  Since initiating one of the first middle school laptop programs in the region ten years ago, JDS has been committed to providing the latest in technology to engage and teach our children.  Today, laptops are not only issued to fourth graders and above, but are also part of computer labs in our elementary school and Science Kindergarten classes. Even some of our youngest students are learning via technology - they play educational games, practice 2nd language, compete in online academic competitions, learn to research and produce digital projects - all under the guidance of our technology-trained faculty.

Many of our faculty members use Promethean smart boards as a learning tool in their classrooms and there are sound systems to enhance the academic experience.  Our students have access to still and video cameras as well as fantastic editing software to create class projects and presentations.

JDS has strong policies regarding the use of technology and the Internet.  Our children learn about Internet safety and often, we hold parent education events during which our parent community can hear from local experts on how to ensure their children are safe online.  At JDS, students are not permitted to use social networking and some other sites unless a faculty member requests temporary access as part of their curriculum.  Skype, for example, is beautifully used to connect our students to individuals around the world as part of classwork and YouTube is often used to watch video of a historical event or news story.  JDS works to ensure the privacy and security of our online systems and the safety of our school community.
