Summer 2010 Reading Program - Middle School
Students are asked to read and document their reading of two books over the summer.
- For the first time, students in 6th through 8th grade will be reading the same required book: The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The process for selecting this book was led by Donna Jennings and a student team who developed a list of possible summer reading choices with consultation from the Lake Hills Teen Librarian. Students in 5th, 6th and 7th grades voted on the choices and Farmer's highly recommended science fiction book received the most votes. The Middle School team looks forward to beginning our school year with multi-grade discussion groups and activities surrounding the themes in this book.
- In addition to The House of the Scorpion, students are required to select and document the reading of one "free choice" novel, as well.
