Alumni Updates

  • Benjamin Avner ('95) and his wife Elissa Cahn are living in Chicago where he is in his final year of school to receive a combined MD/PhD from the University of Illinois - Chicago.  He looks forward to his residency in Internal Medicine.
  • Ben Gown (’96) and Josh Niehaus (’97)  formed the Sababas, a Jewish education musical duo.  Visit www.thesababas.com

  • Halen Baker taught ballet camp in downtown Bellevue - check out "Be A Star Ballet Camp." 
  • Congratulations Victoria Anderson on her Letter to Congressman Reichert being published in J-Teen which appeared in the JTNews last spring - click here to read it.
  • Zach Saul, a student at Hendrix College, is the co-president of Hillel next year and teaches 6th grade Sunday School at a Little Rock synagogue.
  • Maya Zwang, a chapter head for the Becca's Closet prom dress project, has been featured in local media including Star 101.5 radio.
  • Daniel Novick works as a reporter at a television station in Dallas.
  • Josh Kahn ('96) is profiled in Orthodox Union's Jewish Action Magazine article on young Jewish political leaders - available here.
  • Joey Mosholder is a cardiac exercise physiologist at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Boston.
  • Joshua Sloan was interviewed on  NPR's All Things Considered.
  • Sarah Wayne got married this fall and is traveling in Nepal.
  • Jake Baker (’05) is attending the University of North Dakota with a dual major of Aviation Management and UAS Operations (Unmanned Aircraft System).  He will receive his private pilot’s license in January 2011.  (Jake pictured to the right with aircraft at UND)
  • Marina Garkavi ('05) visited campus recently - she is a sophomore at Brandeis University studying pre-health.  Marina's sister and JDS alum Nina Garkavi ('02) is currently working for a marketing firm in New York City.

  • Lila Kitaeff, technical director with Reel Grrls, taught a video class as part the JDS Middle School JAG program.  She is an award-winning filmmaker and video editor.  She has been a Youth Media Educator since 2003 and her art documentary work has received multiple Jury Awards from the International Documentary Challenge including Best Editing and Best Film.
  • Ben Gown is the Early Childhood Education music specialist at the Stroum Jewish Community Center.
  • Great to see Drew, Dea and Dalya Lovy who visited campus just before school started.  Drew is a med student at Albert Einstein Univ. in NY, Dea is studying engineering at Johns Hopkins and Dalya is a nursing student at the University of Michigan.
