Affording a JDS Education

The Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle (JDS) is committed to providing an outstanding Jewish day school education to all who seek it.  We continue to find ways to make a JDS education more affordable for all of our families.  Due to the success of the Discovery Grant program initiated in 2011, the school is also thrilled to extend community donor supported grants for new families to the 2012-13 school year.  Please read about all of our tuition reductions options below.

Tuition Reduction Opportunities

  • Tuition Assessment
Tuition assessment applications are available for all JDS families. Any parent who believes they will be unable to afford the full JDS tuition is encouraged to apply for a tuition reduction. To read more about this program or start the application process please click here.
    • This process is entirely confidential.
    • Parents must complete the online application.
    • The application is reviewed by the Tuition Assistance Committee.

  • Multi-Year Flexible Tuition
Families who apply for a tuition assessment and are granted an award may be eligible for a multi-year flexible tuition plan.  Families on these plans will benefit from the ability to plan ahead more clearly for multiple years of tuition at JDS.  Eligible applicants may receive a two or three year plan with fixed tuition levels. Candidates for a multi-year plan must:
    • Apply to and qualify for tuition assistance.
    • Demonstrate consistent income year-to-year.
    • Submit their tax returns and W-2 annually to demonstrate that household income has not increased by 10% or more during the year.

  • New Student Discovery Grants
New families entering Kindergarten-6th grade are eligible to receive a $6,000 grant, spread over two years, to apply toward tuition.
    • No income threshold.
    • If a family applies for a Tuition Assessment, they are not eligible for the New Student Discovery Grant.
    • There are a limited number of grants available and they are available on a first come, first serve basis.  To apply, please click here.

  • Merit Middle School Grants
In order to be considered for this grant a student must be nominated by a community Rabbi, leader or educator.  Once nominated, the student will complete an essay to be reviewed by the grants committee. Students are evaluated on the basis of scholastic aptitude and the extent to which they will contribute to the JDS community.
    • Available for new students only.
    • Students will receive $5,000 off of tuition.
    • No income threshold.
    •There are 2 grants available.
